Call Numbers

The UK Libraries arranges books by Library of Congress (LC) call number. Materials with similar subjects are shelved together. LC call numbers consist of letters and numbers and are arranged on the shelves in alphabetical then numerical order (see the box on the lower right side of this page).

If Young Library is the location, check the Young Library map to determine the floor and wing for each call number.

If a book is located in another campus library, be sure to note the library location and call number. Check the map of the libraries locations and the hours for each library.

   Interlibrary Loan

Interlibrary Loan (ILL) attempts to fill gaps in the University of Kentucky Libraries' collections.

If the UK Libraries do not have items needed for research, then the ILL staff will attempt to obtain the materials from another library or document vendor.

Those eligible to use the University of Kentucky ILL services are University of Kentucky faculty, emeritus faculty, students, and staff.

ILL requests can take up to two weeks to process but generally cost nothing.

For more information on how to register and request materials from the UK ILL Department at the University of Kentucky Libraries, please visit the ILL website.
