InfoKat Discovery: Personalization

Personalization

When you're signed in to InfoKat Discovery, you can personalize your search results to give higher preference to materials in your area of study; this can be done from the Personalize your results link to the left of your search results.

For example, if you set your preferences to indicate an interest in Geography, a simple search for "Java" will show you more search results about the Indonesian island Java. If you set your preferences to indicate an interest in Computer Science, that same simple search for "Java" will show you more results about the programming language Java. In both cases you will get the same number of results, but resources more in your area of interest will receive a preference in the ranking of your search results (so appear higher on the results list).

From that same menu, you can set a preference to Prefer newer material, so (all other things being equal) resources with newer dates will receive a slight preference in the ranking of your results.
