Teaching Online: Open Educational Resources

This guide is intended for instructors who are developing online courses.

Introduction

To enhance the affordability of higher education and to create a student-centered learning environment, some educators have created, adopted, or adapted peer-reviewed instructional materials that are freely available online for reuse and modification.  Because of their flexibility and ready availability, such alternative textbooks are grouped under the umbrella term "open educational resources" (OER) or "affordable course content."

UK Libraries maintains a Guide to Alternative Textbooks (Open Educational Resources), with links to collections of resources and background information about OERs.  We can also help you find resources appropriate for your course and help you integrate those into your online course shell.  Please review the guide and if you have any questions contact:
