Over-the-Counter Stocks

The Over-the-Counter Market allows people to buy and sell stocks through dealer-brokers, generally by phone or computer. OTC companies are generally smaller, and they do not meet the criteria to be listed on the larger stock exchanges. Many small companies sell shares for the first time here. Because these companies are unknown, stocks tend to be more speculative than on the bigger markets, but they are a good place for new investors. The OTC Market is regulated by The Financial Industry Regulation Authority (FINRA).
