About the 2D Surface Course
The University of Kentucky's Art Studio program offers the Two-Dimensional Surface course as a broad, cross-disciplinary studio course exploring design elements and principles as the basic means of organizing two-dimensional space. Each student develops the ability to form strategies, concepts and ideas to enhance creativity and articulate personal expression.

Student Artists' Books: Non-Objective Narratives
Students of Professor Brandon C. Smith and Colleen Toutant in the University of Kentucky's studio art 2D Surface course were challenged to develop a narrative through a sequence of non-objective compositions. A focus was placed on the principles of art and design to aid in the telling of the narrative. The use of mixed-media was encouraged in the sequences and display to promote creativity and problem-solving for the final composition.
