A virtual Art+Feminism Wikipedia Edit-a-thon
event with Lexington and Louisville, KY art libraries
Friday, March 19, 2021 * 12 pm to 4 pm: drop in or stay all day * online via Microsoft Teams
WHO: Employees at the University of Louisville's Bridwell Art Library and the University of Kentucky's Little Fine Arts Library will host a virtual Art+Feminism Wikipedia Edit-a-thon event on Friday, March 19, 2021. People of all gender identities and expressions are invited to participate, particularly transgender and cisgender women, femmes, and non-binary folks; and with intersectional feminism always in mind, BIPOC are very welcome.
WHAT: The Art+Feminism Wikipedia Edit-a-thon is an international communal updating of Wikipedia content on subjects related to art and feminism, aiming to improve Wikipedia's historic underrepresentation of women in the encyclopedia. Ours will focus on female artists from Kentucky, or others, particularly BIPOC and other under-represented female artists.
WHEN: We will host a live virtual meeting in Teams on Friday, March, 19, 2021 and we will count and celebrate edits made by registered attendees from Friday through the end of the weekend (11:59pm on Sunday, March 21).
WHERE: This will be virtual meeting in Microsoft Teams!
WHY: This international event is designed to improve coverage of under-represented women and the arts on Wikipedia and encourage female editorship. Editing alongside others at the same time is addictive, fun, and uplifting!
HOW: You can stay as long or as little as your schedule allows. Meet new people, learn about artists, get editing support from new and experienced Wikipedians, and help improve the world's largest online encyclopedia. Register here!
