Lesbian Studies: Recent Research Findings

Throughout the year there are announcements concerning aspects of findings about LGBTQ* populations. Below are links to only some of the many online sources, such as newspaper & magazine publications, reports from research institutions, blogs, commentary and reaction pieces.




The following sites will provide access to more recently published research about lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer subjects. These sites were selected based on online access and full-text access to recent research.

  • CLAGS: Center for LGBTQ Studies - The Center for LGBTQ Studies (CLAGS) was founded in 1991 as the first university-based research center in the United States dedicated to the study of historical, cultural, and political issues of vital concern to lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer individuals and communities.
  • The Gottman Institute - Gay and lesbian couples research based resources to help strengthen and support their relationships
  • GSA Network National Research - Gay-Straight Alliance, a student-run club in a high school or middle school that brings together LGBTQ and straight students to support each other, provide a safe place to socialize, and create a platform to fight for racial, gender, LGBTQ, and economic justice.
  • Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Studies Commons - over 300,000 articles and titles
  • Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Health - American Psychological Association (APA)
  • LGBTQ History / Digital Collaboratory - Specialists in LGBTQ history, trans studies, and oral history, as well as key personnel in LGBTQ archives in Canada, the U.S., and the U.K.
  • National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI) - LGBTQ is NOT a heading in the resource list, though there are thousands of recently published articles related to research and LGBTQ populations. Articles can be found with a search in "All Databases." U.S. National Library of Medicine
  • NPR - Does not have a subject list, must search site for LGBTQ research related stories & there are quite a few
  • USA National Longitudinal Lesbian Family Study (NLLFS) -  follows lesbian mothers and their children who were conceived by donor insemination during the 1980s.
  • the Wiliams Institute - Dedicated to conducting rigorous, independent research on sexual orientation and gender identity law and public policy
