Food & Place: Home

A guide to resources associated with the concept of Terroir as it applies to food and wine in Europe and the rest of the world.

Terroir is difficult to translate. It has been said that means, "sense of place," "taste of place," or "elements of the vineyard." There is also speculation that it derives from "territory." No matter the translation, terroir is defined as the specific elements of a region that make it ideal to grow certain products.  Many people associate terroir with wine, but it also relates to many foods and other beverages too.
