An introductory guide offering resources for projects involving digital mapping and geospatial technologies.

Overview

Five Garmin GPSMap 64st units are available for borrowing at the Science & Engineering Library.

Borrowing Policy:

The GPS units may be borrowed by UK students, faculty, and staff. The loan period is 7 days, with the ability for one renewal. To borrow a unit, stop by the Science & Engineering Library Circulation Desk. Each unit will come in a plastic bag and will contain: a gps unit, a carabiner clip that can attach to the unit, a usb cable, a safety info sheet, and a manual [items pictured below].

Before using this equipment, it is highly recommended that you familiarize yourself with the various features.

Downloading Data:

There are different options for displaying data gathered with the GPS unit on your computer, but you may want to consider downloading Garmin BaseCamp software. This software displays waypoints and/or tracks collected with the GPS unit. Details can be found here.

The following charges will apply to any unit returned late or lost:

$5.00/day for each day late

$400 replacement fee
