ASTM Selected Technical Papers (STP)

ASTM publishes all symposia papers  in book format (known as STPs or Selected Technical Papers).  These are individual publications searchable in Infokat Discovery (online catalog) and are NOT an ASTM standard.

Standards Orders - PLEASE READ!

UK Faculty, Staff and Affiliates:

UK Libraries is now providing free access to digital ASTM  Book of Standards.  Please be aware there may be a click-thru license agreement that you will need to agree to to before you get to the site.  You will not need to pay for any standards.

UK Libraries is no longer purchasing individual standards. All other standards (ISO, ANSI, IEC, etc.) will need to be purchased by UK departments. See links below.  Please be aware many standards organizations have equivalent standards so you may want to check the ASTM digital collection above before purchasing.

FAQ on Standards

The nice thing about standards is that there are so many of them to choose from. --  Andrew Tanenbaum in Computer Networks

What is a standard or specification?

A specification is an explicit set of requirements to be satisfied by a material, product, or service (Source:  ASTM).

How do I find a Standard?

Start with Infokat Discovery to see if UK Libraries own it.

How can I tell if UK owns a standard?

If we own the standard there will be record in  Infokat Discovery. The exceptions are SAE J Standards and ASTM standards - see TAB above.

If UK doesn't own the standard I want, do I need to purchase it?

You will need to place an order using a credit card or whatever method the vendor requires. See Vendors listed above.

How long does it take to receive an order?

Electronic documents are generally quicker to arrive than print.  Contact the vendor for more information.

Does UK have SAE J standards?

The Society of Automotive Engineers issues a handbook each year that contains the “J” standards for the industry. We have some older handbooks. Ask at the desk.
