Streaming Video for Selectors

Docuseek2 streams essential independent, social-issue, and environmental films to colleges and universities, providing exclusive access to content from renowned leaders in documentary film distribution. Streaming licenses are available for single titles or the entire collection, for periods ranging from one week to the Life of File.

The default search for Docuseek2 searches the entire catalog, including non-streamable titles. However, you can limit your search to streaming titles or to library-leased material by using the advanced search feature. Other search limits include genre, release year, awards won, grade level, credits contained, availability, and availability of closed captioning, transcripts, and study guides.

Docuseek2 titles can be leased in the following increments of time:

• 3 year license: $375
• 1 year license: $325
• 1 semester license: $275
• 1 week license: $175
• For the life of the film: $562

A playlist on Docuseek2 is a logical set of films that users create. You may create playlists for favorite films, course assignments, films to investigate further at a later date, or for any number of other purposes.

Some key features and properties of playlists:

• You must be registered and logged in to create and add to playlists.
• You do not need to have licensed a title to add it to a playlist.
• Playlists may be kept private, shared with others at your institution, or shared with the world.
• Playlists may include films or film clips.
• Playlists must be assigned a name and may be assigned tags and a description.
• Playlists are assigned their own URL, which may be shared with colleagues.
• Playlists are treated as a user-curated Docuseek2 collection, so existing playlists are accessed via the Collections link on the menu bar of most pages.

Playlists may be created and added to via a film's information page, a search results page, or a clip listing.

From a title information page, click the Add to Playlist button.

From the search results page, you may add the entire search results or individual titles. To add all of the search results to a playlist, click the Add to Playlist button at the top of the page. To add a single title to a playlist, click the green "+" button next to the title.

On a clip list, click the + button.

Visit the playlists page to see a list of all playlists available to you. The list will include playlists you have created, lists created by other users at your institution and shared with the institution, and playlists created by users and shared to the world.

Playlists may be edited via the playlist page. You may only edit playlists that you have created. Click on the playlist name to edit it.

If Docuseek2 is added as a Canvas app, Docuseek2 videos can be integrated into Canvas in 4 ways:

1. On the course navigation list
2. A Docuseek2 player can appear in an assignment by using the Docuseek2 button that appears on the assignment rich text editor tool bar.
3. Docuseek2 titles may be added using the "resource selection" option, as an external resource module.
4. A single resource can also be added as a Module by clicking on Settings, clicking on App, and selecting the Manual Entry option to manually enter the required values. The URL for a resource is found on the Link To / Embed dialog on Docuseek2.

To create a clip, University of Kentucky must have a license to stream the title you want to create clips from.

Clips are created via the Title page. The Clips tab appears if you are logged in. If you have the "Create clips" right, a Make a Clip button appears on the Clips tab. Click the Make a Clip button to launch the Clipmaker page.

Clips must have a start and stop time code. The stop time code must come after the start time code. There are two ways to specify the start and end time code:

• Play the film, and click the Start Clip or Stop Clip button. The button will capture the current time code and place it into the appropriate field.

• Enter the time code directly into the Start or Stop Clip field. Time codes are entered as hh:mm:ss, where hh represents the hours, mm represents the minutes, and ss represents seconds. If you omit the colons, Docuseek2 will interpret the entries as seconds.

All of the clips that you have created are listed on the Clips tab of the My Accounts page. To edit a clip, click the Edit button (the pencil icon).

You may also see your clips for a particular title listed on the Title page. Clips that you have created will show an Edit button. Click the Edit button to edit the clip.
