Kentucky History of Education Theses

From the late 1920s to the early 1940s, there was a series of master's theses completed on the history of education in Kentucky, by county. The 54 authors were graduate students in the University of Kentucky College of Education.

The majority of the titles in the series begin with  History of Education...

The theses include the earliest history of  Kentucky schools, both public and private, and both colored [African American] and white schools.

Some theses have the names of teachers along with their salaries and education levels. The theses may also include school census data, school laws, taxes and school appropriations from the state, annual attendance and enrollment data, and the length of school terms.

There is a wide range of information in these titles, making them an excellent source for pointers to primary sources on education in Kentucky.
