The Hornbostel–Sachs System of Instrument Classification (also known as the Sachs–Hornbostel System) is a system of classification used by ethnomusicologists and organologists to classify instruments from different musical cultures. It was created by Erich Moritz von Hornbostel and Curt Sachs in 1914 and was updated in 2011. (The links below contain both versions.)
