Integrating Library Content into Canvas

A guide for instructors to help identify and integrate library resources and support tools into your Canvas courses.

Linking to Library Information Resources in Canvas

You will generally add links to articles and other library resources to Canvas the same way you would add any web links.

However, keep in mind these important points to make sure your links to library resources work correctly:

  • Use permalinks to link to articles, e-books, etc. rather than the URL from your browser bar. Sharing an article via a permalink is usually an option in library databases.
  • Do not download a PDF of an article and then upload it to your course. This violates copyright law and bypasses the library's usage statistics for that database, journal, e-book, etc.
  • Streaming media services may have options for adding content to display inside a player or provide more options beyond a simple link. The streaming media guide provides more information on specific services.
  • Links will typically include OpenAthens information in the URL. This FAQ provides more information if you have an old link that you believe may need updating.
