Overview

Liaison teams are expected to do outreach and engagement with their assigned departments and collaborate to establish partnerships to connect the library to academic and research programs. In terms of outreach strategy, you have agency to determine what modes and methods best meet the needs of your disciplines. Below are training or conference resources to inform outreach and engagement work at UK Libraries along with contact information and strategies.

Names To Know for Liaison Outreach

The following is a list of faculty and staff positions and roles that exist within most academic departments, that you will want to keep track of. Faculty rotate in and out of these roles. Check departmental web pages and check in with administrative assistants.

  • Department Chair
  • Director of Graduate Studies
  • Director of Undergraduate Studies
  • Administrative Assistants (staff - there is often more than one, and each have different scopes of responsibility)
  • Dept Library Liaison -- some departments have a designated member who works with the library for all department needs
  • Active Curriculum Committee  (may be either regular or ad hoc/review-related; may address graduate or undergraduate curriculum)
  • Faculty who teach GCCR, Capstone, Methods, Research courses frequently, based on course schedules from several semesters
