African American Women Play Musical Instruments: Awards, Events, Tours, Etc.

Celebrating their 50th year anniversary, Women of the Association for the Advancement of Creative Musicians (AACM) wowed the audience who gathered for a “spirit-filled” concert celebrating the milestone occasion. Some leading female members of AACM shared their experiences as members of the organization during a panel discussion following the concert.

Black Women Rock is an annual weekend long cultural concert featuring female musicians of color. It is a tribute concert to Betty Davis; an influential funk and rock predecessor. Black Women Rock features musical performances, panel discussions, workshops and live paintings.

This black tie event features a night of glamour and elegance showcasing the immense talent that black women have in jazz and in the arts. Our mission is to create a greater awareness of the many vital contributions African American Female artists have made in the past, present and to the future of jazz. We celebrate the awesome work of known artists, spotlight the up and coming artists, and honor the sophisticated ladies who present such phenomenal work but may have gotten lost in the shuffle.

Launched in 2010 as a part of ESSENCE’s year-long 40th anniversary celebration, ESSENCE Black Women in Music heralds the accomplishments of both emerging and established artists and influencers during GRAMMY® week.

JAZZ IN P!NK is an all star female ensemble of musical women in jazz that projects talent, beauty, power and femininity as they embrace the stage!

The Institute for Research on the African Diaspora in the Americas and the Caribbean (IRADAC) was founded to address the African presence in the Americas through scholarly research and public programs for the betterment of the public as well as the academic community.

The nation’s foremost exposition targeting the African American consumer market. It is a weekend that empowers, enlightens and uplifts African American women and their families with informative seminars and panel discussions presented by notable local and national speakers and lecturers, educational exhibits and corporate displays, and rousing entertainment.

A free outdoor concert celebrating the diversity and brilliance of female musicians from the local to the global stage closes WOW Melbourne 2017, with a focus on artists who drive social change through their music.

The organization was formed to create a support and empowerment resource base for professional women of color in music and entertainment.
