Lending Policy

General Policy:

The library makes no differentiation between print items in the general collection and those in the government documents collection. Circulation is two weeks for undergraduates, four weeks for graduate students and one semester for faculty members. Community cards are issued to the university's graduates and to members of the community (if under 18, a parent or guardian must sign for a minor to receive a card) that entitle the bearer to two-week loans. Microfiche, machine readable materials, maps and posters do not circulate. Circulation of videotapes is limited to faculty, graduate students and, with authorization from their professor, undergraduates.

ILL:

The library lends print items, excluding maps and posters, for a period of one month. Other formats do not circulate.

Photocopying Service

Paper: Cost per copy no charge
Fiche: Cost per copy no charge
Film: Cost per copy no charge

Reference Service

Type of services offered: The government documents librarian(s) provide assistance in searching for, finding and evaluating information in government documents. In the absence of a government documents librarian, patrons can fill out a form that insures document delivery (if available) within 24 hours during the regular business week.

Electronic Services

Upon approval, the Kentucky State University website's library link will have a page devoted to the depository that will provide general information relating to our government documents collection.

History & Description

Date library became a depository: 1970

Type of designation: Selective

Special Collections

As a selective depository library with a five-year holdings policy, we do not attempt to build up specific areas of the collection, other than those that support ongoing academic programs. However, we do hold census materials beyond the standard five-year period.

Other:

In addition to Blazer Library, Kentucky State University, Frankfort has two other selective depository libraries to which we can refer patrons: the Kentucky Department for Libraries and Archives and the Kentucky State Law Library. If none of these three collections have the materials for which a patron is searching, then that patron also has the choice of visiting the regional library, the William T. Young Library, University of Kentucky, which is just 30 miles away in Lexington.
