Streaming Media at the University of Kentucky Libraries: Public Performance Rights

Identifies possible source of streaming media

Public Performance Rights

While all of our streaming media platforms allow for classroom viewing, as long as it is limited to class participants only, public performance rights are not across the board options.

Public performance rights allow a user to show a film to a wider audience. These often come with limitations such as being restricted to the campus community only or requiring that entrance fees are not charged.

Academic Video Online: Public performances are allowed if admission fees are not collected. Film Platform films within Academic Video Online do not have public performance rights.

Films on Demand World Cinema Collection: Public performances are allowed as long as the film record does not specify otherwise, and as long as no admission fees are collected.

Kanopy: Some Kanopy films come with public performance rights. The films with public performance rights have a PPR next to the running time on the details page. For more information, see the Kanopy help page.

Swank: Swank does not come with public performance rights. Public performance rights may be purchased separately by emailing Meghan Hunkins at mhunkins@swankmp.com.

Docuseek2: Docuseek2 comes with public performance rights as long as they are not advertised outside of the University of Kentucky and no admission fees are collected.

Appalshop: Public performances are allowed, as long as they are hosted by a university organization and no admission fees are collected.
